Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays once said, “Every man and woman is born into the world to do something unique and something distinctive, and if he or she does not do it, it will never be done.” I believe that the same principle applies to storytelling through cinema. Each story is born to give a new perspective, one that is unique and distinctive. I feel personally responsible for opening new avenues for the typically untold stories—many of which speak to American minorities without exploiting them. As a development/production executive, I will have to balance the overall strategy of the studio with my own convictions about what types of films should be made and which stories are told. This is definitely a constant struggle, but it is one to which I look forward. As a producer, I control each story I choose to tell. But as an executive, I can guide the type of stories that are told.
